1. GP Registration

Don't forget to register yourself to the nearest general practitioner (GP)/surgery from your residence upon your arrival in Cambridge. This is extremely important so you can have access to medical services when needed.

To register, you need to bring your passport and BRP to the nearest GP where you will be given a form to fill. A list of the closest GP from a certain location may be found here by entering your postcode.

If you require urgent services (no time to wait for a GP appointment), you may call 111. Alternatively, the emergency number for Addenbrooke’s Hospital Cambridge is 01223 217118.

2. Dental care

There is an extra charge for NHS dental services on top of the healthcare fee you paid when you applied for a visa, unless you are below 18 years old. Locations of the closest dental care facilities may be found here by entering your postcode.

3. Pharmacy

Over the counter (OTC) drugs are much more limited in the UK compared to in Indonesia. Oral antibiotics may only be purchased with a GP's prescription. Topical antibiotics (cream, eye drops), painkillers (paracetamol, ibuprofen), vitamins, and certain drugs (flu, gastric pains, etc.) may be purchased without prescriptions. Some pharmacies in Cambridge are Boots, Superdrug, Lloyds Pharmacy, Asda Pharmacy, Petersfield Pharmacy.

4. Opticians

Some opticians who provide new glasses and contact lenses: Boots Optician, Specsavers, Vision Express. An eye examination is normally charged at £10 and requires an appointment.

1. Registrasi GP

2. Layanan dokter gigi

Ada biaya tambahan untuk pelayanan kesehatan gigi dari NHS di luar biaya yang sudah dibayarkan pada saat pembuatan visa, kecuali bila anda berusia dibawah 18 tahun. Lokasi dokter gigi terdekat dari tempat tinggal anda dapat dilihat di sini dengan memasukkan kode pos.

3. Farmasi

Obat-obatan yang dapat dibeli bebas di UK (over the counter, OTC) cukup terbatas, terutama bila dibandingkan dengan di Indonesia. Antibiotik minum hanya dapat dibeli dengan resep dokter (GP). Antibiotik topikal (misalnya krim, tetes mata), pengurang rasa sakit (paracetamol, ibuprofen), obat flu, obat maag, vitamin, dan beberapa jenis obat lainnya dapat dibeli bebas. Beberapa contoh farmasi yang dapat dikunjungi: Boots, Superdrug, Lloyds Pharmacy, Asda Pharmacy, Petersfield Pharmacy, dan lain-lain.

4. Optik

4. Vihara / Wihara: Cambridge Buddhist Centre, Newmarket Rd

Tesco, Co-op, and Sainsbury's normally have cheaper prices compared to Waitrose or Marks & Spencer. For even cheaper groceries, you can try Asda or Aldi. Prices in Sainsbury's Eddington and Sidney Street (usually called Mainsbury's) are cheaper than in Sainsbury's Local on Regent Street.

1. Walking around college grounds

Favourite colleges to visit are King’s, Trinity, and St John’s. You need to purchase a ticket to enter these 3 colleges, while other colleges can be visited for free (except when they are closed to all visitors). University of Cambridge students can enter King’s/Trinity/St John’s for free by showing their student card, and they can also bring two guests each.

2. Punting

Sightseeing along River Cam in a boat. This boat is not rowed, instead a person will push on the riverbed using a long pole. Punting in Cambridge is rather special compared to Oxford because you can enjoy the sight of beautiful college buildings along the route.

Some colleges have their own boats so members of those colleges can self-punt for free, such as Queens’, Peterhouse, Jesus, and others.

3. Museum

Museums in Cambridge can be visited for free. A complete list is here.

Two particularly good museums are the Fitzwilliam Museum (large collection of fine arts) and Museum of Zoology.

4. Grantchester Village

You can reach Grantchester Village on foot (30 minutes through the meadows from the City Centre), by bike, or punting.

In Grantchester, you can enjoy tea and scones, English-style, at the Orchard Tea Garden, or visit other pubs and restaurants.

5. Shopping Malls

6. Cinema

Arts Picturehouse: This cinema has more varied film choices, not limited to blockbuster or Hollywood films only. Get 2 free tickets by applying to their student membership program.

Vue (Grafton Centre) :  Vue's advantages are their Big Screen Experience and comfortable reclining seats. However, the theatres are smaller so book your tickets early.

The Light (Cambridge Leisure Centre) :  The Light has plenty of seats in each theatre, plus it has an IMAX screen. At The Light, you sign up for an Infinity Card which gives you an all-you-can-watch access for £16.95/month.

7. Theatre

For theatre plays, you can go to ADC Theatre, Park St andCambridge Corn Exchange, Wheeler St. Corn Exchange also plays host to concerts and performances from many world-class musicians and singers across multiple genres, including classic orchestra.

In late spring and summer, there will be many outdoor theatre plays, such as Shakespeare.

8. Cambridge Leisure Centre

Other than The Light, the Leisure Centre also has a karaoke place, bowling centre, various restaurants, and a 24-hour gym.

Tempat tujuan utama turis adalah King’s, Trinity, dan St John’s Colleges. Anda perlu membeli tiket untuk mengunjungi 3 college itu, sementara college-college lainnya bisa dikunjungi gratis (kecuali saat sedang ‘closed to visitors’). 2. Punting

Alias naik perahu di River Cam. Perahu ini tidak didayung, namun ada satu orang yg mendorong dasar sungai dengan tongkat panjang. Punting di Cambridge memiliki keistimewaan tersendiri dibanding di Oxford karena pemandangan yang terlihat saat punting adalah bangunan-bangunan klasik college yang cantik.

Beberapa college memiliki perahu sendiri sehingga anggota college tersebut bisa self-punt dengan gratis, misalnya Queens’, Peterhouse, Jesus, dan lain-lain.

3. Museum

The Light (Cambridge Leisure Centre) :  Kelebihan The Light ada di jumlah kursi yang banyak jadi kamu tidak perlu khawatir kehabisan tiket, dan ada IMAX juga. Di The Light, kamu bisa mendaftar Infinity Card yang memberikan akses nonton sepuasnya dengan membayar £16.95/bulan.

7. Teater

Untuk teater, ada ADC Theatre, Park St dan Cambridge Corn Exchange, Wheeler St. Corn Exchange juga sering mengadakan konser dari berbagai pemusik dan penyanyi terkenal dari berbagai genre, termasuk orkestra klasik.

Menjelang/saat musim panas, banyak pertunjukan teater luar ruangan yang menarik, misalnya Shakespeare.

1. Dining in colleges

A few colleges are open to the public and members of other colleges during lunch/dinner hours and weekend brunches, but most colleges require guests to be accompanied by college members. Formal Hall/Formal Dinner in college dining halls can only be booked by college members, who are allowed to bring a certain number of guests. Formal Hall in several colleges is a very unique experience which must not be missed in Cambridge!

2. Restaurants

In Cambridge, there are a lot of restaurants offering delicacies from all around the world. Just on Regent Street, you can choose from many Chinese, Indian, Italian, and Thai restaurants. Don't forget to bring your student card as many places offer student discounts, such as Thaikhun, Crepeaffaire, and Chopstix.

3. Delivery service

When you're feeling lazy or when the weather is chilly, you can use delivery services such as Uber Eats or Deliveroo. Many restaurants also offer their own delivery service.

4. Takeaway (Chinese, Kebab)

Some examples: Golden House, Lan Hong, Yim Wah, City Kebab.

5. Halal
   • Halal meat can be found in Al-Amin, Cambridge Mill Rd Butchers, Spice Gate. A few Sainsburry’s (Eddington and Sidney Street) and ASDA also sell halal chicken meat.

6. Missing Indonesian food?

Many recipes in the internet and Youtube are easy to follow. Asian spices unavailable in supermarkets can be found on Mill Road or in London's Chinatown.

Di Cambridge, banyak sekali restoran tersedia untuk menikmati makanan dari banyak negara. Di Regent Street, terdapat banyak restoran Chinese, Indian, Italian, dan Thai. Jangan lupa membawa kartu pelajar setiap pergi ke restoran karena cukup banyak tempat menyediakan diskon untuk pelajar, misalnya Thaikhun, Crepeaffaire, Chopstix, dan lain-lain.

3. Pesan antar

Bila sedang malas ke luar atau cuaca sedang sangat dingin, dapat memanfaatkan layanan pesan antar, misalnya Uber Eats atau Deliveroo. Banyak juga restoran yang menyediakan jasa antar.

1. College MCR group

After graduating, usually many students sell their academic gowns through their college MCR groups at a relatively low price. Furthermore, some colleges also offer gowns to their new students through a form which is normally sent after admission.

2. Cambridge University Student Union (CUSU)

CUSU also sells academic gowns at an affordable price. Secondhand gowns are priced at £40 and new gowns are £50.

3. Ryder & Amies

Ryder & Amies sells both secondhand and new academic gowns at a relatively higher price. This shop also offers many Cambridge apparels and souvenirs, such as ties, scarves, jumpers, hoodies, T-shirts, sweaters, and many more.

1. College MCR group

Setelah mereka lulus, umumnya banyak mahasiswa Cambridge yang menjual academic gownnya di college MCR group masing-masing dengan harga yang relatif murah. Selain itu, beberapa college juga menjual gown ke mahasiswa baru melalui formulir yang biasanya dikirimkan setelah penerimaan.

1. Cycling & walking

Almost the entire Cambridge town can be reached on foot or by bike. In fact, Cambridge is the UK's cycling capital! Some recommended places to purchase a bike are:

2. Bus

For local transportation within Cambridge, bus is a common option. Some of the choices are Stagecoach (£2.4 single trip, £4.5 day ticket, £11 week ticket), Park & Ride, and University 'U' Bus (£1 single trip with a student card, £2 without a student card, £3 day ticket, £10 week ticket).

3. Rail

For intercity travels, rail is the fastest and most comfortable option. Rail tickets can be purchased online here or here. If you travel often, it is highly recommended to buy a Railcard which will reduce your ticket price by 1/3. For those aged between 16 and 25 years old, you can directly apply for a 16-25 Railcard. For those above 25, you can ask for a student status letter from your university/college and then use it to apply for a Railcard.

4. Coach

For intercity travels, sometimes coach (bus) is cheaper than rail, although of course the travel duration will be longer. Coach tickets can be purchased at National Express. Just like a Railcard, you can get a Coachcard which also offers discounts on coach travel. Coachcards can be purchased through the above link.

Untuk transportasi lokal di Cambridge bisa menggunakan bus, misalnya Stagecoach (£2.4 sekali jalan, £4.5 tiket harian, £11 tiket mingguan), Park & Ride, dan University 'U' Bus (£1 untuk sekali jalan bila memiliki kartu pelajar, £2 bila tidak, £3 tiket harian, £10 tiket mingguan).

3. Kereta

Untuk berpergian antar kota, kereta adalah pilihan tercepat dan nyaman, tiket bisa dibeli secara online di sini atau di sini. Bila merasa akan sering bepergian dengan kereta, sangat disarankan untuk memiliki Railcard karena dapat menghemat 1/3 biaya perjalanan. Untuk yang berusia 16-25 tahun dapat langsung melakukan aplikasi untuk 16-25 Railcard. Untuk yang sudah berusia lebih dari 25 tahun, dapat menyertakan bukti status pelajar dari universitas/college untuk melakukan aplikasi Railcard.

4. Coach

Untuk transportasi antar kota, terkadang coach (bus) lebih murah dari train, walaupun tentunya durasi perjalanan akan jauh lebih lama. Tiket coach dapat dibeli di National Express. Sama seperti Railcard, ada pula Coachcard yang juga dapat menghemat biaya perjalanan. Coachcard dapat dibeli melalui link di atas.

Stationery and office supplies can be purchased at Ryman or WHSmith, both in the City Centre. Ryman is generally more recommended as they offer a 10% discount for students, just show your student card while paying.

Peralatan tulis dan kantor bisa dibeli di Ryman dan WHSmith, keduanya dapat ditemukan di City Centre. Disarankan untuk membeli di Ryman karena ada diskon 10% untuk pelajar, cukup tunjukkan kartu pelajar saat membayar.
